Something Special

Periodically, I am asked to make bookmark commission pieces. This is one of my favourite things to do. It's such an honour to be trusted with special pieces of jewellery and other keepsakes, and I love being able to give them a new lease of life as part of a bookmark.

One of the most recent commissions I've had is from a lovely customer within the village where I live.

I was given some earrings that had belonged to her Grandma and asked to create a bookmark for her Mum.

I ended up making two bookmarks as I wanted to use all of the pieces and add something to personalise them. The colours and shapes of the earrings meant that they were best separated.

For the first, I used a pink ribbon to work with the amethyst and crystals and added an 'M' for the initial of the Mum's first name. For the second, I used the stone earrings in an amber colour and added a Farthing, minted in the year of the Mum's birth.

I have used coins in this way before, and they always go down very well. Often lucky pennies, or shillings and farthings if pre-decimal.

My customer was delighted, which means I am delighted. I love this part of my work, and am grateful to be able to help keep these special keepsakes out of draws and boxes where they are never seen, and place them in the hands (and books) of their owners.

If you are interested in requesting a commission, please email me using lucylovesbylucy@gmail.com and I'll talk through how I can help.
